Hales Passage Cemetery Policies


Adopted by Board of Trustees April 2009 - Revised 2013

1. ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting will be the Saturday before the Memorial Day weekend (9 days before Memorial Day) and held immediately after the work party. It will be in the Sears’s garage across the street from the cemetery as long as the Sears family agrees.

2. GATE ACCESS
The personnel gates will be unlocked at all times.
The vehicle gates will be locked at all times unless there are people working in the cemetery. The key to these locks is kept behind the hose reel on the south side of the grounds.

3. INHERITANCE
Plots may be passed down to family members by inheritance. The Secretary must be notified of any changes made for record keeping.

4. INTERMENT FEE
A $50.00 burial fee will be charged for each burial and/or each interment of cremated remains. A Burial Tracking Record, (an application for Burial) form will be available from the Secretary and on the website when it is completed.

5. NUMBER of BURIALS per PLOT
Only one casket is allowed per plot. Multiple cremations are allowed per plot. The Secretary must be notified of any additions or changes for records

6. HEADSTONES
A permanent headstone or marker is required to be installed within one year of any burial. (cremations or casket burial)

7. CREMATIONS
The top of a urn or container of cremated remains must be dug a minimum of 18” below the ground. The scattering of ashes on cemetery grounds is not permitted.

8. EXCESS DIRT
Dirt that is removed from a burial plot for a casket or urn must be moved to a designated area by burn pile.

9. PLOT BORDERS
If family would like to put borders around a plot, or a series of plots, the borders must be flush with the ground.

10. SHRUBBERY, PRUNING, PLANTS & FLOWERS,
All planting of shrubbery must be approved by the Board of Trustees. Flowers and ground covers may be planted within the plot borders if maintained by the family. Significant pruning must be approved by Board.

Glass containers are not allowed.

11. NEW AREA vs. OLD
All newcomers to the cemetery will be sold plot in the new (northwest quarter) of the cemetery.
Members that have relatives in the old section may buy plots close to their relatives if available.

12. PLOT BUYBACK
The Cemetery Association will not buy back plots.

13. PETS
Pets are not allowed to roam in the cemetery.
